About The Bend Kartdrome

The Bend Kartdrome at Tailem Bend sits on Dukes Highway in South Australia and offers a proper racing experience with televised lap times, podium photos, and proper procedures. The staff are meticulous about safety gear fitting and helmet checks, and they handle mechanical issues quickly when they arise. Visitors mention that the karts themselves require some getting used to, especially with manual chokes, but the team sorts out any problems smoothly. Weather doesn't stop racing here; one group found that wet track driving created a completely different and surprisingly fun challenge. There's a small cafe for coffee and snacks, and an upstairs viewing platform lets non-drivers watch the action. The large carpark and clear signposting make it easy to find. It's a well-run family-friendly venue where competitive spirit is encouraged and everyone goes home with their lap times. Families and groups of mates find it easy to book in and enjoy a solid day out without any hassle or over-the-top upselling.

This was my first visit to KartDrome with my family as a Birthday present. Very impressed with the facility, track and process to book, conduct safety briefing and fitting of safety gear. The trackside staff were very helpful with checking our helmets and assisting us into the Karts with our safety harness. The Karts themselves were easy to drive and loads of fun with several bends to make the driving experience more challenging. Some of the Karts look like they have had a hard life. One of our group had an engine problem because the manual choke was left on as he left pit straight. Another in our group had to change Karts as the starting rope broke. The staff overcame these issues quickly. The televised ranking of members in a group on a large screen for lap times and a podium inside allowed us to take photos. There is a small Cafe for coffee and drinks plus snacks. The upstairs viewing platform provides a great view of the Kart track for non-drivers but it has limited seating. The carpark area is very large. Access to the KartDrome is very well signposted. This is a place where family (except under 14year olds who can’t drive) or groups can meet, undertake an activity and let their competitive spirit loose.

10 of us booked into a “Bronze Cup” on a Saturday afternoon recently - a mix of first timers, including three teenagers between ages 15-17 years, and returning kart-fans, all super-competitive! The weather forecast by the day of our booking wasn’t great: with rain expected and so we were all nervous, assumed it would be cancelled (even hoped) but when I called to check, I was told they go ahead in most weather. Well, it was a blast! Despite the rain and being saturated from the first lap(!) everyone had a great time. Those who had karted before said it was such a different experience driving in wet track conditions, making it more challenging but definitely all were glad to have taken part. If you can muster 10 people to book a “Cup” style, it’s a lot of fun having the qualifying followed by laps under race conditions. Tips: change of clothes if you’re likely to get wet! Spectators can watch from an upstairs covered viewing deck (the view is a bit distant to the longer track).

Great venue, a couple of hours outside of Adelaide. It's so much fun, and the price is okay, too. So much to do and see at The Bend.

Staff were great, track was great, but the karts are desperately needing love. Misfiring, poor tyres, wobbly steering. Lots of fun still, but made the experience a lot less enjoyable having poor condition karts, won’t be going back until they’re fixed or updated.
